Sustainable Grain Protectants: Recruiting Entomopathogenic Nematodes against Stored-Product Coleopterans
نویسندگان
چکیده
Stored-product commodities are attacked by numerous insect species. The adulticidal effects of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) on grains remain uninvestigated. Thus, in the current study, seven doses EPNs Heterorhabditis bacteriophora Poinar (Rhabditida: Heterorhabditidae), Steinernema carpocapsae (Weiser) Steinernematidae), and feltiae (Filipjev) Steinernematidae) were inoculated wheat kernels against adults Trogoderma granarium Everts (Coleoptera: Dermestidae), Tenebrio molitor L. Tenebrionidae), Alphitobius diaperinus (Panzer) Tenebrionidae). Complete mortality (100.0%) T. was recorded after exposure for eight days to highest dose 50,000 Infective Juveniles/mL (IJs/mL) all tested EPN At same interval, 62.2%, 85.6%, 76.7% killed IJs/mL H. bacteriophora, S. carpocapsae, feltiae, respectively. A. (11.1%) documented post-exposure bacteriophora. In general, highly susceptible, followed diaperinus. Concerning species, exhibited insecticidal capacity, can be sufficiently managed three However, not affected any EPNs.

What are you focusing on at the moment? I am still carrying on with my research into the molecular mechanisms of memory, currently focusing on the link between CaMKII and AMPA receptors during memory consolidation. But two years ago, funded by the BBSRC, we embarked on an exciting new project, investigating the link between decision-making and learning in Lymnaea. This project uses much less mo...
متن کاملEntomopathogenic nematodes against foliage feeding crucifer pests in the tropics
Use of entomopathogenic nematodes against foliage pests is commonly perceived to be limited by their tolerance to temperature, desiccation and UV radiation. The effect of these abiotic factors on the infective juveniles (ijs) of two isolates of Steinernema spp. (SSL85), two isolates of Steinernema spp. (M87), Heterorhabditis n.sp. and H. indicus recovered from selected sites within Peninsular M...

Effects of four tropical plant (Aframomum melegueta, Zanthoxylum zanthoxyloides, Piper guineense and Eugenia aromatica) were investigated under tropical laboratory storage conditions for the protection of cowpea seeds against insect infestation. The plant materials were pulverised into fine powder after air drying and admixed with 20 g of cowpea seeds at the ...
متن کاملEYcacy of the entomopathogenic nematode Steinernema riobrave against the stored-product insect pests Tribolium castaneum and Plodia interpunctella
Persistence of stored-product insects in hidden refugia and their subsequent movement into stored commodities resulting in product infestation contributes to their pest status and represents a potential target for biological control agents. Entomopathogenic nematodes have not been previously tested against stored-product insects in environments such as empty grain bins or food processing and wa...
